Kentucky VINE for Marion Releases
Victim Information and Notification Everyday, or VINE, receives data from Kentucky local jails and adult state correctional facilities. The public interface is VINELink. It can report release, transfer, and escape events, along with current custody information supplied by the reporting agency. Marion County Detention Center records and KDOC records are distinct sources within that system.
VINE does not replace the Bureau of Prisons locator, ICE detainee locator, or U.S. Marshals custody chain. It also does not certify a permanent history. A result should be read as a current record or event report, then matched to MCDC, KOOL, a KDOC release record, or the appropriate court document.
Search a Marion VINE Record
Open the Kentucky VINELink route and choose “Find an Offender.” A partial name or jail/DOC offender ID can locate candidates. Select the person and reporting agency carefully. Similar names and separate jail and corrections entries can otherwise lead to the wrong conclusion.
- Enter a partial first and last name or the known offender ID.
- Compare identifiers and the reporting jail or corrections agency.
- Open the matching record and read custody status before the date fields.
- If a local jail record appears, repeat the search for a separate KDOC record.
- Confirm a Marion departure with MCDC or the relevant KDOC record.
The official interface demonstrates the people-search route and available public record states.

The screen is an interface example, not proof about a particular Marion County case.
Marion VINE Result Fields
A released or not-in-custody result may provide a release date. An in-custody result can identify the jail or institution and its contact details. The exact fields depend on the source record, so missing data should not be guessed.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Custody status | Reports the status supplied by the jail or KDOC source. |
| Reporting agency | Distinguishes the county-jail record from the state DOC record. |
| Offender identifier | Helps match the correct person and record. |
| Facility and contact | Identifies the current institution when the person is held. |
| Release date | May appear when the source reports the person not in custody. |
| Event type | Separates release, transfer, escape, and other reported changes. |
Transfer is a movement to another custodian. Escape is not an authorized release. Neither should be summarized as a return to the community.
Register Marion Release Alerts
On the correct record, select “Notify Me of Status Changes.” Available delivery choices can include phone, email, text, in-app, and TTY methods. Registration is confidential, and official materials state that the offender is not told. Multiple phone numbers and email addresses may be registered where offered.
- Open the correct jail or DOC result.
- Choose the notification option and the status changes offered.
- Enter each destination for phone, email, text, or app delivery.
- Create a memorable four-digit PIN for a phone registration.
- Complete the on-screen confirmation and repeat for a second jail/DOC record when one exists.
Phone-only registration is available at 800-511-1670, with TTY at 866-847-1298. Up to two telephone numbers may be registered through the phone route. The four-digit PIN acknowledges a call and stops repeat attempts; it should not be described as a requirement for email alerts.
VINE Call Timing in Kentucky
Jail-release calls may repeat every 30 minutes for 24 hours until acknowledged. For state-institution release, an advance notice is attempted about 72 hours ahead when possible. A sudden court order, time-credit change, parole event, or escape may allow notice only after the event. Those times describe notification attempts, not public 24-hour or 72-hour release lists.
Calls can arrive at any hour. A personal number is more suitable than a switchboard. KDOC Victim Services can assist at 502-564-5061 or 877-687-6818, by email at VSB.help@ky.gov, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- PIN
- A four-digit code used to acknowledge phone notices.
- Transfer
- Movement to a different custodian.
- Release
- An end to the reporting agency’s custody, subject to verification.
- Notification
- An alert about an event, not a certified historical record.
Check Both Marion VINE Records
Kentucky’s official VINE FAQ warns that one person can have both a county-jail record and a KDOC record. Search and register on both when both exist. A local transfer alert may mark departure from MCDC while state custody continues. The second record can identify that continuing relationship.
The official FAQ illustrates the dual-record and registration workflow.

This Kentucky-specific rule is critical in Marion County because MCDC may house people whose status later belongs in KOOL or a KDOC release report.
Verify Unexpected Marion Alerts
KDOC documented vendor-caused false state-custody release alerts on February 3, 2026. The incident does not make VINE useless. It does mean that an unexpected notice must be confirmed with the underlying agency before the event is described as release.
The KDOC VINE information page records both call behavior and the false-alert notice.

Compare an MCDC alert with the jail’s release or movement sheet. Compare a state alert with KOOL and KDOC Daily Releases. If a transfer appears, locate the receiving custodian. Broader released-person lookup routes are available from Home.
Marion Custody Systems Compared
VINE coverage follows the reporting source. A person booked locally may have an MCDC record. A state-sentenced person may also have a separate KDOC record that continues after departure from the county jail. KOOL can show active custody, parole, probation, mandatory reentry supervision, pretrial diversion, or an absconding status. “ABSCONDED” means supervision was not completed as directed; it is not a known current location.
| Custody type | Primary confirmation |
|---|---|
| Local Marion booking | MCDC record, Marion court, and jail-side VINE entry |
| KDOC custody or supervision | KOOL, Daily Releases, and DOC-side VINE entry |
| Federal sentence | BOP inmate locator and federal record |
| Federal pretrial movement | Federal docket and USMS custody chain |
| Immigration custody | ICE locator and agency assistance |
A no-result in one system does not erase a record in another. A local pretrial release may never enter KOOL. A federal handoff will not be resolved by a Kentucky corrections search.
Read Marion Alerts Carefully
When VINE sends a notice, open the live result rather than relying only on the text, email, or call. Identify the event type and reporting agency. Search for the second jail or DOC record described by Kentucky guidance. If release is reported, compare the source jail’s physical release entry or the KDOC Daily Releases record. If transfer is reported, identify the receiving custodian.
A VINE date and a court date may describe different stages. A judge can authorize release before jail staff finish warrant and detainer checks. A state report can reflect a corrections event rather than the exact local processing time. Labeling each source prevents normal differences from becoming a false contradiction.
Keep registration details current. A changed phone number or blocked call can defeat the delivery method even when the underlying event is reported. VINE is a useful safety tool, but direct plans should not depend on a single automated notice. Contact the source agency when timely confirmation is needed.
Marion VINE Status Meanings
Release means the reporting custodian ended its custody, but another agency may immediately receive the person. Transfer expressly describes movement between custodians. Escape is an unauthorized departure and must not be described as release. A not-in-custody result may include a release date, though it is not a certified complete history.
For state cases, KOOL date labels require separate reading. Projected Release Date is a search range. Minimum Expiration of Sentence Date, also called the Good Time Release Date, is a credit-sensitive computation. Parole Eligibility Date permits consideration, and a Proposed Release Date can depend on Board action and conditions. None automatically proves that physical release occurred.
A later Daily Releases entry or movement record is better evidence of the event. When the state record shows parole, probation, or mandatory reentry supervision, check the begin and end dates and supervising location. Release from an institution is not the same as discharge from supervision.
Other Marion Notification Limits
The Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry is a limited post-release route only for people with a registration duty under Kentucky law. It is not a general released-inmate database, and a registry result does not establish the date someone left jail or prison.
BOP, ICE, and USMS custody sit outside Kentucky VINE’s substitute coverage. A person moved from MCDC under federal authority may disappear from the local jail source while remaining confined. “In Transit” in BOP data still means federal custody. ICE has its own locator and a limited recent-release scope.
For a Marion County local release, MCDC’s booking and release sheet remains the best physical-event record. The Marion court file explains the bond, dismissal, sentence, or release authority. VINE adds notification and corroboration. Those roles should remain distinct.
Resolve a Marion VINE Conflict
Start with the record that generated the alert. Note whether it is the local jail or KDOC entry, the exact event label, offender identifier, and time received. Then open the live result. A phone message can repeat, and a saved text may not reflect a later correction.
For an MCDC event, call 270-692-5802 and request the existing release or movement record. Ask whether another authority accepted custody. Check the Marion court case for the order authorizing release, but remember that the court order alone does not prove when jail staff completed the event.
For a KDOC event, compare KOOL’s current status with the Daily Releases report for the relevant date. Search by DOC number, name, and released-from facility. Read the state release type literally. If it states parole, probation, shock probation, or mandatory reentry supervision, the person remains linked to community supervision.
If a federal hold is involved, move to the proper federal source. A person housed at MCDC for USMS can leave the county jail without appearing in BOP right away. That gap is a custody transition, not evidence of community release.
Marion VINE Source Offices
When a local VINE alert needs confirmation, Jailer Barry Brady and the official Marion detention office own MCDC’s custody release or transfer record. Sheriff Jimmy Clements leads the separate Marion County Sheriff’s Office, which can address its arresting-agency records but does not run the jail. The Marion Court of Justice and clerk hold the order behind a local bond, dismissal, sentence, or release. An alert can be checked against all three without treating their different records as interchangeable.
